Plasma UI - Design System

Plasma UI - Design System

2024

Context

The scenario we encountered when we started structuring the design system team was a library of coded components used in a product suite (Viridis V2). This library had the issue of not being designed for this purpose, as the components were not reused. Additionally, there was a second library (PLASMA), an evolution of the first one, which already had a structure more similar to an actual design system but with some issues regarding how the coded component library and the Figma library were quite different in some cases.

Challenge

The challenge in this scenario was, first and foremost, to organize this second library so that our components were fully mapped and represented in Figma. This process was completed around mid-2024, and since then, we have been working on several fronts to improve the design system. The first is the process of converting the older library, Viridis V2, to Plasma, considering that the visual differences between them are minimal. The second front of work is structuring a token system that we plan to implement in the library. Lastly, the third is building the documentation for both components and system patterns.
